My comic Project

My Comic Project has really been coming together and I've really been enjoying making it a lot. I just need to adjust some panels, add  the rest of the colours (which seems to be working!!) and with any luck, I'll have it finished this december! Phew! I got pretty inspired from using a similar colour tone to Carl Barks Donald Duck Comics, I think using simplistic flat colours might be best for me:

Collaboration

I made a little collaboration with Catherine Zhang on my course, I'm sure you can tell which one is mine:

Xmas card

I tried making a christmas card. I used markers and fine liners again which I haven't really used since I started the course... I did think I could give them a try with my bear comic.

Bear Comics (continued)

I'm a bit sad about ignoring my pig adventurer story but I thought for now, it would be best to further develop the bear comic- its fun to make.

Each invidual frame is drawn on a A3 sized piece of paper, I didn't want to include any dialogue in the panels but instead, I wanted to try making most of the humour come through from the drawings themselves. I was quite inspired by seeing some of the weird faces in the original seasons of the Simpsons and early Ren & Stimpy episodes.

Boxing Chicken

I did also make this sequence but I think I will concentrate on a short comic about my bear idea instead, especially after some encouragement from Marta and Alexis.

Since I kept being told that my drawings are looking pretty 'animated' lately, I wanted to possibly invest in getting a nice lightbox, I think it might be something I need alongside a decent printer and scanner one day in my illustration career:

Another Bear comic

Tried a slightly different seqeunce of events with the bear story, Alexis thought I should just make into a short comic- perhaps I'll do that. I was hoping I could try another comic with the pig character after this:

Bear comic complete

I still need to make colour images or finalised artwork, but I'm really enjoying just making short comics:

Bear Comic

David Hughes felt I was being a bit too over ambitious with my pig adventure story and felt I needed to make a much simplier comic idea for the project- hes probably right. So instead, I tried to think of a much simplier wordless sequence.

I actually really loved making this. My drawings are no longer stiff or flat but its now full of movement and I'm getting a lot of praise for it too-  The only real problem is now I need to find a good way to colour them in!

Superhero chicken

I like super hero comics, but I prefer silly super hero stuff like the ninja turtles and darkwing duck. Since my drawings are apparently full of 'movement', I started to wonder if I could make my own action based comic on the side with the pig adventurer.

wondered if it looked a bit too familiar and unorginal but it is fun drawing a superhero chicken and monsters.

Adventure Pig

First three rough pages of the adventures of Rodney Rasher:

Stuff I've been doing this week:

I managed to show my comicbook ideas to Martin and Marta this week and they believed my drawings have now reached a point where there now just 'so good' They are no longer stiff or held back by thick black lines,  and instead, look pretty exciting, animated and humourous. A huge Morale boost!  My ideas may appeal to 10 to fourteen year olds who like exciting action comics.

For now, I've spent a bit of time practicing colours again and have started re-using markers again and mixed them together with my colouring pencils I got during the summer. I think it looks pretty promising:

I already have a comic idea but I also started to wonder what other sort of ideas I could make, perhaps based off some of the cartoons I grew up watching (like Bucky 'O Hare, Ninja Turtles and Samurai Pizza Cats.) Perhaps I can come up with my own sort of super hero type thing, Hopefully I'll work on it some more next week.

Something Sphinx!

For my upcoming Final Major Project, I'm really hoping to make an action adventure style comic, inspired partly by Indianna Jones and Tintin- and from my fond memories of saturday morning cartoons such as Darkwing Duck & Rescue Rangers.

I approached my writer friend Tom Masters sometime back in July and wondered if he was interested in doing 'a adventure type story about a pig' So its a colloboration between both of us- it feels a lot less stressful for me not having to worry about the story that way.

There isn't any dialogue just yet:

Bear Continued Continued

Removed the thick black eyebrows entirely from the bear and I think it looks a lot better that way.
Pretty interesting to see how its developed compared to the first one:

Bear Continued

Made many failed attempts at trying to get my finalised images of my bear story to look 'right' So heres the lastest attempt. I think Every new attempt I've made has at least looked better than the previous one:

Might still be something a little off about the eyes. I thought a solid Black colour might be too 'distracting' ? I was also wondering about the bears overal colour.

project BEAR

I was hoping to work on a comic idea this summer but I also wanted to return to my first book idea this summer and make a new and hopefully much more improved mock up of it, especially since my drawings have definetly loosened up a little and gotten much better. I just need to find a good way to approach colours in my work (which is kinda happening lately.) - I really want to see this published one day:
